Julie-a Child
of the
Alaskan wild.
Born and Raised in East Texas, I lived in the Texas hill country through my very early 20’s. Now, I have uprooted alongside my partner, Trent - and our three pups, and now call North Pole, Alaska, home.
I’ve had a love of being in the kitchen since I was a child. Growing up in East Texas, with tons of family living just minutes away, others in a small town near the Louisiana state line, and lots of great aunt’s close by (who are actually your grandfather’s cousin’s friend’s wife’s sister…you get the point)- you learn quite a bit overtime. I began canning: jams, preserves, pickles, among other things- at a super young age. During the summers, I spent a lot of the time riding my bicycle to go help in the neighborhood folk’s gardens, tending to my own garden, and foraging for wild blackberries in my backyard. Thus, my love for homemaking began…
“You weren’t born in the wrong generation, you were put here to keep the old one alive”
Although, I don’t believe I was put here for a specific reason, and I’m definitely not the only person who loves canning, homesteading, cooking, baking, etc - As I learn new ways, remember the old that I was taught, and create my own way of doing things- the thought of passing something as small as a recipe along to someone else, brings me joy.
Wild Grits is the birth of something very special to me. Southern melting pot of flavors, with the wild harvest of Alaska. Texas roots. Alaska living.
